From breastfeeding/bottle feeding to baby food

Start complementary feeding when the baby shows interest in food and the first teeth appear.
This will be between around 5 and 7 months of age.
Then your child will no longer spit out food.
And it can already sit with support.

Drink water in addition to breastfeeding / bottle feeding: Offer your child water in a cup with the porridge.

A relaxed environment with familiar people (caregivers) makes the first feeding easier. the first feeding.

Initially offer the baby pureed or soft foods in small quantities. Steamed, finely pureed vegetables (e.g. carrots) or finely grated fruit (e.g. apple) are suitable to start with. grated fruit (e.g. apple).

Later on, foods with iron and zinc are good for your child.
For example, wholemeal cereals (cooked), meat or eggs.

Cow’s milk is not suitable as a drink in the first year of life.
For porridge at most
Use 200 ml cow’s milk per day.

Avoid the following in the first year of life: raw milk, sugar, honey, maple syrup, raw fish, raw eggs and raw meat.

Don’t force your child to eat if they don’t like it.

Continue breastfeeding your baby for as long as you and your child want.
This also applies to the bottle.
Only use pre formula for the bottle in the first year of life.

This is best done when your child wants to eat the family food.
At this point at the latest, however, it needs additional liquid.
Water is best.
This is from around the age of 10 months.

After the first porridge meals, foods with iron and zinc are good for your child.

Complementary food recipes

  • Peeling carrots
  • Cut small
  • Cook until soft and puree finely
  • from 100g porridge
  • Add 1 teaspoon of rapeseed oil and stir together
  • Offer cooled down to the child
  • 20 g cereal flakes
  • 90 ml water
  • 100 g pureed fresh fruit (e.g. bananas, strawberries, apples)
  • Bring the water to the boil briefly
  • Stir in the flakes and leave to swell
  • Mix in the fruit puree
  • 100g vegetables (e.g. broccoli, cauliflower, carrot, zucchini)
  • 50g potatoes
  • 30g lean meat (e.g. beef, veal, pork, lamb, poultry)
  • 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
  • Cleaning vegetables
  • Peel the potatoes
    Cut the potatoes, vegetables
    and meat into small pieces and boil in a little water
  • puree everything
  • Mix in the oil
